Wednesday Wondering: Classics: Good or Bad?

What are thought on teachers requiring us (students) on reading classic novels??

Hello Bloggers and blog enjoyers, I did a random survey on how we (middle school students) feel about reading classic novels! So here are my responses...

Bob Lincoln: I don't like it.
Fred O.: I don't enjoy it.
Lilly: I think it is a somewhat bad idea.
Hooligan: I think it is valuable but they should be mixed up with other books.
Harry Styles: it is HORRIBLE!!!!
Keshaun: Good
Niall Horan: AWFUL!!!!!!!!
Teacher X: I think it is a good idea.
Puzzels: It is okay but mostly boring.
Skog: Classic novels are the bomb-diggity: :)
Adam West: brilliant idea!
Frediliacorn: Classics are good, but variety is also good!

So my thoughts on this is some classics are really good, like Charlotte's Web. But some can be really boring but I can't name any because they were so boring I don't remember the name!!

Well, what are your thoughts on classic novels (write in the comments)

Prom and Prejudice, by Elizabeth Eulberg

A review by ~twistar24~

Prom and Prejudice, by Elizabeth Eulberg, is a twist on the classic book by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice.  But in this one Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bennet got a scholarship to this all-girls private school where there are snobby rich people.  The whole story is about them getting ready for prom.

There is also a boys' private school, where Will Darcy and Charles Bingley go to school.  There is also another person who gets in the way of Darcy and Lizzie.

I enjoyed reading this book because I like when people put twists on classic books.  It didn't take me long to read it because it was REALLY good!  I saw it on a shelf at the bookstore and decided to give it a try.

The book was funny and cracked me up sometimes.  If you like drama, romantic  kinds of books, then this one is for you.  Also, if you are a Jane Austen fan (like me!) then this might be a book to try.

I give this book 6/5 chocolate bars.
Fairy level of appropriateness--nothing inappropriate!

Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice
By Jane Austen

My step mom got me into the Jane Austen movies when I was 11, and this year I thought that it would be fun to read the books. I read Pride and Prejudice. This book is set in the time period around the 19oo's. In this book the Bennett sisters have to find a husband so that they can have some of their father's land. Jane, being the oldest and most mature one, meets one Mr.Bingley and they struggle to stay together because of Mr.Bingley's sister. The second oldest, Elizabeth, falls in love with the stubborn Mr. Darcy, who isn't here for love but to help his friend. Mr.Darcy's stubbornness blinds him, and he doesn't see Miss.Bennett (Elizabeth) until she starts to show herself more around him.

Some more drama in this book is that one of the Bennetts' cousins, Mr. Collins, steps in between Mr.Darcy and Elizabeth and asks Elizabeth for her hand in marrage. But since she is waiting for Mr.Darcy, she refuses and Mr.Collins ends up marrying Elizabeth's best friend. But after all the running away and eloping, it all turns out fine in the end.

I liked this book because I could relate to the characters--all of them, in bits and pieces.  Jane Austen did a nice job creating a "mind movie" in the book because I could see what was happening.  I think the book was a lot better than the movies.  I always (or mostly always) think that about books and movies because in the book they give more detail than the movies, and I like most of their plots better.
I think I'll read another Austen book. My step-mom just bought me Emma and another book by Jane Austen, too.  I got these things for my birthday, which had a Jane Austen theme this year.
I would rate this book 5/5 chocolate bars!

Review of Caddie Woodlawn, by Carol Ryrie Brink

At age 11, Caddie Woodlawn is the despair of her mother and the pride of her father: a clock-fixing tomboy running wild in the woods of Wisconsin. In 1864, this is a bit much for her Boston-bred mother to bear, but Caddie and her brothers are happy with the status quo. Written in 1935 about Carol Ryrie Brink's grandmother's childhood, the adventures of Caddie and her brothers are still exciting over 60 years later. With each chapter comes another ever-more exciting adventure: a midnight gallop on her horse across a frozen river to warn her American Indian friends of the white men's plan to attack; a prairie fire approaching the school house; and a letter from England that may change the family's life forever. This Newbery Medal-winning book bursts at the seams with Caddie's irrepressible spirit. In spite of her mother's misgivings, Caddie is a perfect role model for any girl--or boy, for that matter. She's big-hearted, she's brave, and she's mechanically inclined! (Summary from Amazon.com)

Caddie is a girl of 11 and, for her day, she is very independent. Instead of sitting inside and knitting or sewing, she is outside, right at her brothers’ side, meeting Indians and having the time of her life. The more days that pass by, the closer she is to being stuck inside all day with her sisters. This is also the story of all the things she goes through when she is 11.

When you read this, you can tell that most girls aren’t like her. She loves to go outside and see the world around her. You can read about how she got a bad cold and how she and her family face a big decision. It’s fun to see how she has changed from the beginning of the book.

I love this book because it’s very well written .You feel as if you’re watching this as it happens. It is a bit less amazing because it kind of drags on about some things, but all in all it is a good book.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 chocolate bars!!
